The Salesman

Written and directed by Asghar Farhadi, starring Shahab Hosseini and Taraneh Alidoosti. Persian with English subtitles.
Many of you will remember Asghar Farhadi’s excellent previous film “A Seperation” which we screened a
couple of years ago. This, his follow up film won the 2017 Oscar for Best Foreign Film. While actors
Emad and Rama are participating in Arthur Miller’s play “The Death of a Salesman” their lives are turned
upside down when Rama is assaulted in their new home. Husband Emad is determined to find the
perpetrator, over his wife’s traumatised objections.

Maudie

Directed by Aisling Welsh, starring Sally Hawkins, Ethan Hawks.
Based on a true story, Maudie a bright but crippled young woman yearns to be independent and live away from her protective family and create art.

She eventually takes a job as a housekeeper to difficult and reclusive Everett Lewis.

While in Everett’s employ Maudie begins to paint and at the same time an affection begins to grow between the couple with Maudie rising to fame as a folk painter.
